Villa Astor, the most prestigious property in Sorrento, is a magnificent edifice towering above the Gulf of Naples. The Villa and the distinctive garden, one of the 20 most beautiful gardens in Europe on two hectares (4+ acres) of land, face outwards Naples and the Vesuvio with a sheer drop to the sea. The three story Villa has large terraces. Moreover, the domain includes an annex, a garden with fountains, lily ponds and a small pool as well as two private accesses to the Mediterranean and several large roman caves. The property includes the remains of a Roman villa and a collection of 145 archaeological pieces of great cultural and historical interest.
The Villa comprises a main building over three floors. The main entrance is located on the ground floor. It is enhanced with marble floors and columns. There is one large room, a study and a spectacular white salon, all with separate balconies and a view of the sea.
From the ground floor, a stairway leads to the lower floor with 2 salons, 2 dining rooms, a kitchen and utility room, all built around an area adjacent to the stairs. The lowest level, which can be reached from an outside staircase is composed of a terrace, and a salon in a glass-covered portico, an ideal summertime area for dinners, parties and barbecues. On the first and second floor, there are 6 luxury bedrooms designed and executed by Jacques Garcia, each with en-suite bathroom.
Located near the historical center of Sorrento, walking distance to the cozy streets and shops and trattorias as well as to the ferries, Villa Astor stands in a dramatic position the top of a promontory, with a sheer drop off into the sea. The property faces out towards Naples and Mount Vesuvius. The villa, with its own private descent to the sea and swimming platform, is built in an elegant neoclassical style, with marble columns, on four levels, adorned with valuable archaeological artifacts and artworks.
The property enjoys panoramic, 270-degree sea views, and is surrounded on three sides by the large, private garden with more than 700 kinds of of plants, flowers and trees, some soaring up to 60 feet high. A walk through the property — its garden, open spaces, and internal rooms is a truly emotional experience: elegance and classicism, all with a very strong relationship to local southern Italian traditions, can be found through the property’s décor, paintings, and various artifacts. Marble columns and archaeological fragments complete its style, while it is difficult to verbalize what Villa Astor truly represents.
Guests will surely be overwhelmed by its history, as well as its gardens, style, detail, and stunning sea views. The villa has just undergone a complete renovation of bedrooms and bathrooms and the public rooms in 2014.
