Overview

Villa Emo Capodilista stands on Montecchia hill just 25 miles from Venice and 10 miles from Padua, in the Euganean Hills Regional Park. A splendid and original Veneto Villa, one of the most charming architectural jewels in Italy, it has remained the property of the same noble family that commissioned its construction in 1568. Today, after a careful renovation and restoration of the frescoes, it has been made available to discerning guests for a truly special and unique vacation.

The building, an original interpretation of the Veneto Villa, was designed as a hunting lodge by the architect and painter Dario Varotari, a pupil of Veronese, and built in a square which is repeated in the internal layout of the rooms: four on the ground floor and four on the first floor, divided by a staircase of four flights in the shape of a Greek cross. All the rooms are decorated with frescoes and trompe l’oeil depicting scenes from mythology and ancient history, putti, grotesques and friezes. The facades are enhanced by two tiers of large loggias which, from the hilltop, look over magnificent and pleasant scenery and in particular, the west side of the villa looks over the 27-hole golf course, La Montecchia Golf Club, whose club house contains the restaurant La Montecchia, recently awarded a Michelin star. A few kilometres away lies the restaurant Le Calandre, managed by the same family, one of the few in Italy with 3 Michelin Stars. An added benefit to a stay at Villa Emo.

Just inside the gates, you can see the vineyards of the Azienda Agricola Conte Emo Capodilista on the hill and at the foot of the southern side of the hill, this winery produces wines which were awarded Three Glasses by the Gambero Rosso – Slow Food in 2009 and have been mentioned several times by the critic Robert Parker Jr. For very exceptional events, this Veneto Villa is available for small groups of people who wish to spend some unforgettable hours imbued in history and tasting the wines produced by the winery of the estate.
